My love of plants and nature came at an early age. I could be found playing in the woods, possibly up a tree in my backyard, in my neighbors garden, or lost in the undergrowth of the massive elephant ear and Daffodil patch. My herbal know-how truly started when I went to visit Northern California in 2015. I stumbled upon a flyer was for a gathering of an herbal community that just so happened to be the following weekend at Black Oak Ranch. Little did I know the level of healing and education I was stepping into when I went to my first of twelve Northern California Women's Herbal Symposiums (NCWHS). From attending my first NCWHS in 2015, I was able to find my Teacher Jane Bothwell (Dandelion Herbal Center). I'm so grateful for her knowledge and grace. I started her 'Beginning with Herbs' class in the fall of 2015. I realized this was my true path and decided to stay in Northern California.
Becoming Jane's Garden Apprentice alongside Melissa Young (Young Medicinals), I learned how to care for the medicinal plants that I later connected with as herbal allies. I was in awe. I attended every class Jane offered throughout the six years I lived in Humboldt County. I sometimes took a class twice, or as an assistant, so to keep learning alongside others with this same passion. As I grew my connection with my plant allies, I wanted to dive deeper. Heather O'Connell (Hearth of the Heart) came into my life thanks to NCWHS. With Heather, I learned how to work with my inner light/ shadow through Shamanic Journeying to go deeper into my healing journey. I am eternally grateful for her and all my ancestors, teachers in the physical, elemental, spiritual, plant, and fungi kingdoms.
When I wanted to learn more about what makes soil healthy and vibrant, I started going to meetings with the local Permaculture Guild in 2015, later becoming a steering committee member in 2016. I attended the UC Davis Gardening program in 2017. I learned a great deal from my time with the guild, working alongside many for the love of awakening those in our community to sustainable practices for tending the land around us. Immense gratitude to Levon Durr (Fungaia Farms) for all you do. In 2017, I was turned onto the benefits of Korean Natural Farming practices with Drake PureKNF.
In 2019, a big year of integration for me, I received my Permaculture Design Certification and I was able to follow Jane to Italy for her herbal immersion. Going to Italy and seeing the ancient ways still alive and well brought an acknowledgment of a universal connection that comes from witnessing ancient temples and current culture. While in Italy, I found myself drawn to the city of Damanhur and ended up living, working, and studying there for a month.
When I studied with Greta De La Montagne (Gentle Strength Botanicals & MASHH) at NCWHS in 2017, I found one of my happy places, in service with herbal first aid/ community herbal clinic. In the spring of 2020, I went down to Costa Rica to study Herbal First Aid/ Herbal Medic training with Lala Palmieri (Weaving Remedies) and Dee Pauline (Grassroots Apothecary), aka the Village Witches at Envision Festival. I was excited to get back home and start working on a mobile first aid plan. Little did I know, my flight from Tennessee to California was going to be postponed due to the covid shutdown. I was blessed to spend the shutdown with my family in the southeast. Now a year later, I have officially moved here. I am currently living on the Middle Chattahoochee-Lake Harding watershed on Creek (Muskogee) land. I am excited to be around my family and elated to be able to be in a place to share my love of plants.
